ADOPT, DON’T SHOP!
Rescue dogs and cats make the best pets. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that animal shelters care for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year in the United States, in which approximately 3-4 million are euthanized. At this time, there is no central data-reporting agency for animal shelters, so these numbers are estimates.
Animal shelters are filled with healthy, adoptable dogs and cats. Even your local animal control will have pets for adoptions. Other rescues are non-profit organizations which depend solely on donations. Visit the sites below and make a donation today! In addition, animal rescue organizations are always looking for volunteers.
Be aware that you can adopt a pure-breed dog or a puppy at a rescue shelter. In addition, there will likely be a rescue specifically for various pure breeds. Just enter the breed name + rescue. There are many wonderful rescue organizations that will help you find your perfect pet.
